Active Travel is when we get from A to B using our own energy usually by walking, cycling or wheeling.  Active and sustainable travel is when we also incorporate the use of public transport e.g walking to catch a bus to a destination or cycling to the station to catch a train for part of a journey. Incorporating active travel into our daily routine can have huge benefits not only to the individual but also the environment we live in.

With the cost of living increasing, more and more people are looking to leave their cars at home for those shorter journeys.  Many people are considering how they can become more fuel efficient by walking to work, visiting family or recreational activities as often as possible.

The Trinity Active Travel Hub can offer Personalised Travel Plans detailing active and sustainable options for people as well as a range of activities such as walking groups, bike maintenance classes, led cycle rides, cycle training or information on routes maps etc. North Ayrshire Council’s website also has a range of maps and cycle path information to support active travel.

We also support and promote a number of infrastructure projects that North Ayrshire Council have with Sustrans to improve and create new walking and cycling routes within North Ayrshire.

The programme has been running for over 7 years and has successfully supported the workplaces below to achieve the Cycle Friendly Employer Award from Cycling Scotland.
