North Ayrshire Green Health Partnership Blog April 2022

Hello everyone David here doing my Blog for April 2022. The days are getting longer and the North Ayrshire Green Health Partnership are getting busier. There has been lots of activity happening in April and coming up in May!

The nicer days have brought with them a fresh intake of people wanting to take part in Green Health. Whether it be for the benefit of their health and wellbeing or just to meet new people and socialise as part of some great activities. This is great news and hopefully it continues as we move beyond difficult times and the struggles of the past few years.

We had our Green Health Network meeting on Tuesday the 29th of March from 7pm to 8:30pm. I delivered some GHP updates for those present and as always it was great to see new and continuing groups/people who are enthusiastic about Green Health. We had talks from Scottish Fire and Rescue Service whereby they are looking to coordinate with community groups and organisations to develop plots on their land that would encourage use for community growing, outdoor play and socialisation to name a few. We spoke about the NAC 2030 Woodland Project that was in the last blog as well as our upcoming Green Health Week 2022. If you would like to get involved in future Green Health Network meetings then get in touch, the next one will be in June.

This year’s Green Health Week is the 14th of May to the 22nd of May!  This is an awareness raising week and opportunity to showcase the best of North Ayrshire’s greenspaces and green health opportunities. It also crosses over with Mental Health Awareness week which is 9th to 15th of May. We have a list of great activities and events happening over the 9 days and I am really excited to share our promotion materials over the next few days. We need all of the help we can get to raise awareness of the week. We will have virtual webinars on topics like Beginner Bird ID, plenty of in person activities ranging from health walks, Qi Gong, therapeutic gardening, family friendly wildlife events and much more. We will also be releasing activity packs on our @NAGreenHealth Facebook and Twitter pages. These will be FREE resources that can be used by anybody in their home, garden or favourite Greenspace. I am so excited to get started on this. This time of year always feels so positive.

During Green Health Week I will be out and about delivering and visiting groups to get photos of all your smiling faces. It will be a great opportunity to showcase some of the activities we will be promoting and raise awareness during the week. A highlight coming up in May for Green Health Week is an event organised by our North Ayrshire Community Link Workers at Springside Community Centre in Irvine. Alongside other organisations and community groups to celebrate both awareness events that are coming up. Come along between 11am and 3pm and say hello, there will be walks, activities and games for the whole family.
