Hello everyone David here doing my Blog for February 2022. It is running a little in to March… I know! Just been so busy trying to catch up with all of the great work that is going around in North Ayrshire.
We will be having a Green Health Network meeting on Tuesday the 29th of March from 7pm to 8:30pm. This will be an opportunity for me to promote and raise awareness on projects and upcoming events happening in North Ayrshire over the next few months. It is also an opportunity for like-minded people interested or involved in Green Health across North Ayrshire to Network. The ultimate aim is to bring local community and organisations together and build new Green Health opportunities and capacity for North Ayrshire.

This year’s Green Health Week is officially the 14th of May to the 22nd of May! This is an awareness raising week and an opportunity to showcase the best of North Ayrshires greenspaces and green health opportunities. Whether it be helping to promote and raising awareness to delivering walking, cycling, gardening, practical conservation or environmental art then get in touch. We try and make every year bigger and better than the last and this can only be achieved by working with community and organisations. It also crosses over with Mental Health Awareness week which is 9th to 15th of May. As is well documented Green Health can have an inspiring transformation on peoples health and wellbeing.
There is a new Green Health Project in North Ayrshire Weigh to Go Green Gym™. Looking to getting healthier? A great way to change those eating habits is by learning about food, learning to set your own goals and getting more active. TCV is hosting 2 sessions of “Weigh To Go” (Don’t worry if you have missed the 1st week, we can get you on track).
- Group Session at Eglinton Community Garden, Thursday, 10:30 – 12:00 – Each week we look at a different topic, assess your progress and then head out for a walk or some gardening.
- Virtual Session (TEAMS) Thursday, 17:30 – 18:30 – unable to attend the morning session due to other commitments, why not join our virtual group for the topic of the week, progress check and support. We will encourage you to either attend other TCV Natural Health activities or complete the weekly challenge.

Another new project to highlight is the Building Roots Project which is pan Ayrshire. Building Roots Ayrshire project is an exciting partnership project between TCV Scotland and three local authority departments in North, East and South Ayrshire, that are working on resettlement, integration, community learning and development, and ESOL. We have our North Ayrshire project located at Eglinton Community Garden every Thursday from 10am to 12pm.
There are more Green Health opportunities than ever before in North Ayrshire, some restrictions are still in place depending on the groups capacity. If you want to know what Green Health opportunities are available where you are then get in touch with me at d.meechan@tcv.org.uk or 07773 200525.
