North Ayrshire Green Health Partnership Blog January 2022

Hello everyone and Happy New Year! I think you can still say that… maybe. David here doing my Blog for January 2022. I have been back almost a full month now and I am starting to get back in to the swing of things. My optimism for January this year is much higher than January 2021 as things are looking brighter for this year.

Let me start off with some good news! Communities Mental Health and Wellbeing Fund in North Ayrshire. There was a new fund available in North Ayrshire for those groups who work with adults to improve their mental health and wellbeing. I was happy to hear that some Green Health projects were successful in getting funding from this, I look forward to seeing these project developing and supporting them wherever I can. Green Health can have such a fantastic effect on mental health and wellbeing so I am happy that groups were successful in getting that funding to develop new and existing initiatives.

Speaking of funding there is the Nature Restoration Fund run by NatureScot. Priorities for the fund are:

    • Habitat and species restoration – management for enhancement and connectivity
    • Freshwater restoration, including restoring natural flows in rural catchments
    • Coastal and marine management to promote restoration and resilience
    • Control of invasive non-native species impacting on nature

Fund Expressions of Interest must be received by noon on 18 February 2022. Click here.

There are more Green Health opportunities than ever before in North Ayrshire, some restrictions are still in place depending on the groups capacity. If you want to know what Green Health opportunities are available where you are then get in touch with me at d.meechan@tcv.org.uk or 07773 200525.

Please remember Paths for All Open Fund, which is a Smarter Choices Smarter Places Fund. This fund supports travel behaviour change programmes with environmental outcomes. Applicants can apply for grants from £5,000 to £50,000 and there is no closing date. Types of green health projects that would suit the fund include: carbon emission reducing activities e.g. cycling and walking; and environmental projects that benefit the community, increase environmental sustainability and encourage greater use of sustainable forms of travel and more. All in all January has been a good start to the year. There has been lots of positive energy and new possibilities for Green Health and the Green Health Partnership in 2022.
