North Ayrshire Green Health Partnership Blog June 2021

Hello everyone, David here doing my Blog for June. This blog will be a little bit more relaxed in terms of news, more of a chance of reflection on the outlook for Green Health in North Ayrshire in the Summer.

So since the beginning of May we have steadily seen an increase in Green Health opportunities for people to take part in North Ayrshire. There are still some restrictions depending on the groups capacity, but we have more opportunities available for people to take part in than we had in Summer 2020 when I returned from Furlough. If you want to know what Green Health opportunities are available where you are then get in touch with me at d.meechan@tcv.org.uk or 07773 200525.

If you are once again delivering Green Health in your area, let us know! Get in touch with me.

Over the next few weeks and months TCV and the NA GHP are helping to deliver some outdoor education sessions to young people across North Ayrshire. Have a look out for YouthFest 2021 from 2nd of August to 9th of August. This will be an opportunity for us to engage with some young people in some outdoor sessions that could benefit their health and wellbeing. Young people similarly to other demographics during the pandemic have been hit quite hard by a lack of social connection with their peers. YouthFest is a way to engage with young people and share ways in which they can utilise nature to connect with others as well as their wider environment.

This month I started to collect data on what Green Health opportunities have been happening over the past year – starting with January to December 2020. This is part of the North Ayrshire Green Health Partnership National Evaluation. I have been in contact with groups already and I have an ask for all groups across North Ayrshire that deliver Green Health to get in touch with me over what they were running last year. Tell us all about ways in which you supported people by taking part in Green Health when everything was closed. Was it delivering food parcels from fresh produce volunteers grew at your community garden? Did you deliver activities with community hubs? Let us know!
