North Ayrshire Green Health Partnership Blog March 2022

Hello everyone David here doing my Blog for March 2022. Spring is upon us and there are lots of amazing opportunities happening across North Ayrshire. I wanted to start off with how the community can get involved in our Green Health Network and Green Health Week.

We will be having a Green Health Network meeting this coming Tuesday the 29th of March from 7pm to 8:30pm. This will be an opportunity for all to promote and raise awareness of projects and upcoming events happening in North Ayrshire. It’s also an opportunity for like-minded people interested or involved in Green Health across North Ayrshire to Network. The ultimate aim is to bring local community and organisations together and build new Green Health opportunities.

This year’s Green Health Week is officially the 14th of May to the 22nd of May! This is an awareness raising week and opportunity to showcase the best of North Ayrshire’s greenspaces and green health opportunities. Whether it be helping to promote, deliver health messages or delivering walking, cycling, gardening, practical conservation or environmental art then get in touch. We try and make every year bigger and better than the last and this can only be achieved by working with community and organisations. It also crosses over with Mental Health Awareness week which is 9th to 15th of May. As is well documented Green Health can have an inspiring transformation on people’s health and wellbeing.

North Ayrshire 2030 Woodland Grant is live! The Grant Fund has been developed to help deliver the Council’s Tree Planting Strategy, which aims to plant 108,000 trees across North Ayrshire by 2030. An initial £25,000 has been allocated from the Council’s tree planting fund for distribution to community groups to assist with their tree planting ambitions for the forth coming planting season – between October 2022 and March 2023. This grant fund will help to deliver tree planting and woodland creation activity at grass roots community level, by supporting new and developing tree planting projects.  For more information follow this link.

There is a new Green Health project for Armed Forces Service Personnel & Veterans! Ground Force is a project hosted by Eglinton Community Gardens inviting members of our Armed Forces to embrace the benefits of being outdoors and connecting with nature. We aim to develop a Tree Nursery to build confidence and improve health and wellbeing. It runs every Thursday from 9:30am to 12:30pm.
